Your community college has expertise to share. The College of Southern Nevada has faculty experts on almost every subject. Here are a few examples of the knowledgeable leaders you'll find within CSN's Speaker's Bureau, located at www.csn.edu/speakersbureau.

Dr. Jennifer Basquiat

CSN communication professor Dr. Jennifer Basquiat has done extensive field research on a wide range of ethnographic, religious and anthropology related topics, including Haiti, Vodou and Mormonism. She is currently exploring the controversial issue of polygamy as practiced by one of many fundamentalist Mormon groups in Utah and Arizona.

She received her bachelor's and master's degrees from California State University, Los Angeles in communication studies and a second master's as well as a Ph.D. from Claremont Graduate School in cultural studies.

Her doctoral dissertation received the "Dissertation of the Year" award from the Religious Communication Association and portions of her work have also been published in Dialogue: A Journal of Mormon Thought. In addition, she has had her research regarding Mormon feminism published in Harvard Divinity School's Journal of Feminist Studies in Religion for which she was awarded the journal's prestigious New Scholar Award.

David Hernández

Born and raised in Cuba, CSN gaming professor David Hernández has more than 20 years of managerial and supervisory experience in gaming at historic properties, including Treasure Island, Sahara, Thunderbird, Treasury and Mint. He heads the college's Casino Management Program, the only program in the United States to enjoy academic accreditation through the Commission on Colleges of the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges, as well as professional accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation of Hospitality Management.

In 2011, he was tapped to be the keynote speaker at the XVI Congreso Nacional De Cofar 2011, Spain's premier gaming conference, where he provided expertise on how to attract customers during an economic downturn. He received his master's degree in instructional technology from American Intercontinental University and completed course work for a master's in secondary, postsecondary and vocational education at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Dr.Samuel Sarri

Prior to coming to CSN in 1997, CSN economics and philosophy professor Dr. Samuel Sarri taught at Michigan State, Mesa College, University of Paris, University of Lille and the University of Casablanca.

He has multiple graduate degrees, including two doctorates, one in international economics, money, and finance from the University of Paris and another in international business administration from Southern Wesleyan University, Louisiana. In addition, he is a former international registered investment adviser with Merrill Lynch, Sun America Securities, John Hancock and other firms.

An active researcher, he has authored some 20 books on economics, logic, history of Western philosophy, globalization, financial planning and investment, foreign languages and risk management sciences.
