Nevada high court hearing set in Onion case

LAS VEGAS — The Nevada Supreme Court has scheduled oral arguments to determine the fate of a dog that fatally attacked a toddler last year.
A notice filed this week set a hearing July 3 in Carson City in front of all seven justices.
The filing is the latest in the legal fight over Onion, a 120-pound mastiff-Rhodesian mix that killed his owner’s grandson at the 1-year-old boy’s birthday party in April 2012.
Onion’s owner gave up the dog, but The Lexus Project rescue group intervened in hopes of sending Onion to a Colorado sanctuary. Onion’s owner later said she wanted the group to have the dog.
A lower court ruled the city of Henderson could euthanize Onion, but the Lexus Project appealed.
Onion remains in a Henderson animal control facility.
