Nevada Youth Training Center escapees taken into custody

A sheriff's official said two teen runaways were found within hours after escaping from the Nevada Youth Training Center near Elko.

Elko County sheriff's Cpl. James Carpenter told the Elko Daily Free Press the two 16-year-old boys were reported missing about 10:30 p.m. Sunday.

One was found shortly before 1 a.m. Monday hiding in a vehicle on Youth Center off Interstate 80 northeast of Elko.

Carpenter said the teen told officers the other hopped on a train to leave the area.

But deputies investigating a report of vehicle vandalism at the nearby state Department of Wildlife center found the second boy hiding in a game warden vehicle.

The Free Press reported that both teens were taken to the Elko County Juvenile Detention Center.
