No. 1 pick Wall scores 24 in win

John Wall, the NBA's No. 1 overall pick from last month's NBA draft, overcame a slow start in his pro debut to score 24 points and dish out eight assists to lead the Washington Wizards to an 84-79 win over Golden State in the NBA Summer League tonight at Cox Pavilion.

With a sellout crowd of about 2,500 looking on, the 6-foot-4-inch point guard from Kentucky got better as the game went on. In 34 minutes of action, he made 7 of 15 shots from the field, was 8 of 9 from the free throw line and his two free throws with 17.4 seconds gave his team a little breathing room after the Warriors closed to within 78-76.
