No. 8-seeded Colorado State women come through again in MWC tournament

It seemingly doesn't matter where Colorado State finishes in the regular-season standings, the Rams come through in the Mountain West Conference women's basketball tournament.

The No. 8 seed Rams defeated No. 5 Wyoming 64-56 today at the Thomas & Mack Center. Colorado State (10-20) will play No. 4 New Mexico (21-9) at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in a quarterfinal game. Wyoming (16-14) must hope for a bid to the Women's National Invitation Tournament.

Last season, Colorado State went into the conference tournament as the ninth seed, but in consecutive days defeated No. 8 UNLV and No. 1 Utah.

"I don't know what it is about tournament time," Colorado State's Amaka Uzomah said. "All I know is we come in 0-0, and you've got to fight for everything."

Uzomah, Bonnie Barbee and Zoi Simmons each scored 11 points for Colorado State.

Hillary Carlson led the Cowgirls with 17 points, followed by Emma Langford with 16 and Megan McGuffey with 13.
