No injuries reported as train derails in northern Nevada

WINNEMUCCA - Twenty cars of a Union Pacific train hauling grain derailed Saturday afternoon in the Northern Nevada desert, but no injuries were reported.

Union Pacific spokesman Aaron Hunt told the Reno Gazette-Journal that the derailment occurred after 3 p.m. near Sulfur, 50 miles west of Winnemucca.

The 105-car train was headed to Roseville, Calif., but its origin and the company hauling the grain were not known. Train traffic was being rerouted on another line through Nevada, and no trains were being held up because of the derailment, he said. The cause of the derailment was under investigation.
