North Las Vegas officer injured in shooting

A North Las Vegas police officer was injured Saturday night in an exchange of gunfire with a suspect.

Police spokeswoman Chrissie Coon said police were still searching for the assailant following the incident, which occurred shortly after 10 p.m. in the 2600 block of East Deer Springs Way, near the Las Vegas Beltway and Losee Road.

The officer’s injuries were not life threatening.

“There was an exchange of gunfire. The officer was struck but he’s fine,” Coon said.

The shooting happened outside an apartment complex.

Information on what precipitated the shooting was unavailable late Saturday evening.
