Northern Nevada man to plead in baby’s 1995 death
ELKO — A Carlin man who spent more than 16 years in prison for a murder conviction that was overturned by the Nevada Supreme Court in 2012 has agreed to plead to an involuntary manslaughter charge in the case.
After the case was sent back to Elko District Court, District Attorney Mark Torvinen said he would retry Patrick McCormick for the 1995 murder of 14-month-old Jacob Jones.
The trial was tentatively scheduled to begin Jan. 28, but court documents show McCormick has agreed to plead no contest to involuntary manslaughter at a hearing on Tuesday.
The Elko Daily Free Press reported both sides will recommend the 45-year-old McCormick get credit for time served because he already has served more than four times the maximum allowable sentence for involuntary manslaughter.
