Northern Nevada woman sentenced to life in prison for husband’s death

RENO — A 32-year-old Washoe Valley woman has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after she was convicted of murdering her husband a few days after Christmas.

A judge sentenced Shaunna Dodd on Tuesday. A jury had convicted her of first-degree murder in October.

Washoe County sheriff’s officials said they found 37-year-old Brad Dodd shot dead inside the couple’s home on Dec. 29, 2012.

Deputies arrested Shaunna Dodd a few days later.

Prosecutors said the woman shot her husband before telling investigators others had broken into the home and killed him during a robbery.

Witnesses testified that Dodd had been plotting to kill her husband for months and had attempted to hire hitmen to carry out the crime.
