Obama nominates Navarro to Nevada federal bench

President Obama has nominated Clark County Chief Deputy District Attorney Gloria Navarro for a federal judgeship in Nevada.

The 42-year-old Navarro was recommended by U.S. Sen. Harry Reid to fill the vacancy left by Brian Sandoval, who left the bench in September to run for governor.

Reid announced her nomination by the president today.

Reid says Navarro is a first-generation American and the embodiment of the American Dream.

Besides being a prosecutor in Las Vegas, Navarro also worked as federal public defender and in private practice.

In 2002 she was named Public Lawyer of the Year by the Nevada State Bar Association.
