Off-road racer Huseman among those killed in plane crash

One of the three people killed in a private plane crash near Barstow, Calif., was off-road racer Rick Huseman.

Family members announced Huseman's death on his official website. Also killed in the crash was Huseman's brother, Jeff.

Huseman, 38, was the reigning Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series champion.

The pilot of the Beech 33 Bonanza was not immediately identified.

Officials from the Federal Aviation Administration said the plane had taken off from the North Las Vegas Airport and was headed to Corona, Calif., about 1 p.m. Sunday when it crashed.

The pilot had declared an emergency and was attempting to land at the Barstow-Daggett Airport.

The National Transportation Safety Board was investigating and will release a preliminary report within a few weeks, officials said.

Barstow is about 150 miles southwest of Las Vegas.
