Officer who shot and killed auto theft suspect ID’d

The police officer who shot and killed a suspect who wounded another officer last week has been identified as Christopher LeBlanc, according to Las Vegas police.

LeBlanc has been with the Metropolitan Police Department since 2001 and is a patrol officer for the department's saturation team, a group of officers who target high-crime areas.

LeBlanc shot and killed auto theft suspect Damon Beal on March 23 after Beal fired at his partner, officer Michael Madland, striking him twice.

Madland was still in critical condition at University Medical Center Monday morning, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
