One dead, one critical after I-15 crash
February 12, 2011 - 7:30 pm
One person died and one person was critically injured Saturday afternoon in a collision on Interstate 15 that blocked southbound traffic south of Mesquite for hours.
The crash happened at about 3:30 p.m. when a black Lexus was being driven north in the southbound lanes. The driver of that car died after colliding with a gray Infiniti about five miles south of Mesquite.
No information was available on the dead driver, and it hasn't been determined whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the wreck, said Nevada Highway Patrol trooper Joseph Frackell.
The driver of the Infiniti, a 37-year-old man, was flown to University Medical Center with critical injuries, Frackell said.
I-15 was still blocked as of 7:30 p.m. while investigators worked at the scene, but traffic was being allowed to pass on the shoulder.
