Outlaws to play one of final two regular-season home games

The Las Vegas Outlaws will finish out their inaugural season in the Arena Football League. But the team will play only one of its remaining two games at the Thomas & Mack Center.

The AFL announced Thursday that Las Vegas‘ scheduled home game against New Orleans on July 25 will not be played and both teams will be credited with a tie in the league standings. But the Outlaws‘ regular-season home finale Aug. 8 vs. Spokane will be played as scheduled.

The league took over the operation of the Outlaws this week along with the New Orleans franchise.

"We made a decision that is in the best interests of the league," Arena Football League commissioner Scott Butera said Thursday night. "We have decided to cancel the New Orleans game, and it will count as a tie against both teams‘ records.

"We wanted to keep things as normal as possible. We had two teams in a flux, and we decided this was the best way to handle the situation."

Butera said players and coaches will be paid for the July 25 game. Fans who have tickets can email the team at collin@afloutlaws.com to receive a refund.

The Outlaws are 5-9-1 entering Saturday‘s game against the L.A. KISS in Anaheim, Calif. Las Vegas is in second place in the AFL West Division and still has a chance to make the playoffs.

Butera said the league‘s decision will not compromise the Outlaws‘ postseason chances.

"They can still make the playoffs if their record is good enough," Butera said.
