Pahrump man accused of molestation faces more charges
A 57-year-old Pahrump man accused of molesting 10 children faces additional charges after Nye County sheriff officials say he tried to intimidate and bribe a victim's mother into preventing her child from showing up in court to testify against him.
Samuel Vernon Hamett was rearrested Thursday night and charged with bribing or intimidating a witness and preventing a witness to testify. The charges come days after Hamett was arrested on 10 counts each of lewdness with a child under 14, sexual assault with a child under 14, child abuse and exploitation of a child and open and gross lewdness.
On Thursday, Hamett met with the mother of one of his alleged victims in an effort to not have her child testify against him in a future trial. Officials said the 57-year-old intimidated the unidentified woman and offered her money.
He is being held on $10,000 bail as well as the $250,000 bail from the charges from his arrest Sunday.
Hamett's victims range in age from toddlers to teens up to 14.
