Pedestrian struck and killed on Las Vegas Beltway

A pedestrian seen stumbling across multiple lanes of traffic on the Las Vegas Beltway was struck by at least one vehicle and killed Tuesday night.

The man, whose name was not released, was crossing the westbound lanes of the beltway just west of Rainbow Boulevard about 8:20 p.m., according to Nevada Highway Patrol Sgt. Kevin Honea. He crossed the center dividing wall and made it about three-quarters of the way across the eastbound lanes before he was struck by a vehicle, Honea said.

Investigators have not determined whether drugs or alcohol was a factor.

One person who hit the man stayed at the scene, Honea said. Other vehicles are believed to have hit him, but they did not stay at the scene, he said.

“They might not have known what they hit,” he said. “No one is expecting to see a person lying in the roadway out there.”
