Police groups deny 2008 endorsement
The Las Vegas Police Protective Association claimed Friday that Clark County School Board District E candidate Caroline Sanchez-Rangen falsely listed the group as endorsing her on her campaign Web site.
Sanchez-Rangen, a special education assistant for the school district who is running against board member Terri Janison, did not return calls seeking comment.
On her campaign site, Sanchez-Rangen claims endorsements from the Las Vegas police association, as well as from those in North Las Vegas and Henderson.
But in a letter sent to her dated Friday, David Kallas, director of governmental affairs from the Las Vegas police union, wrote that she has no such endorsements from any of the three groups.
Efforts to reach the groups Friday were unsuccessful.
Janison said she had heard about the letter, but had not seen it.
"If you're endorsed by someone, put it on (your Web site)," she said. "If you're not, you shouldn't say you are."
On her site, www.csanchezrangen.com, Sanchez-Rangen claims endorsements from more than two dozen groups, including the three local police groups.
In the letter to Sanchez-Rangen, Kallas wrote that he and she had a conversation about two weeks ago, "in which I told you that you did not have the endorsement" of the group.
He requested that Sanchez-Rangen remove the claim from her Web site. As of Friday afternoon, the three endorsement claims in question were still on the site.
"It is truly disturbing that an individual running for an elected office would attempt to deceive the 'public' they purport to want to represent," the letter states, in part, "let alone an individual running for a position on our School Board that makes decisions about our children's futures."
