Police kill man after he tried to rob bar, took hostage

Las Vegas police shot and killed a man Monday after he tried to rob a bar and held a bartender hostage at knifepoint, police said.

Police were called at 10:32 a.m. to the PT's Pub on the corner of Sahara Avenue and Nellis Boulevard.

Three officers shot the 23-year-old man after he refused to comply with commands, Capt. Pat Neville said.

The robber was taken to the hospital, where he died.

A bar customer also was hospitalized after the robber hit him over the head with a beer bottle, Neville said.

The shooting was the second of the morning for Las Vegas police.

Just before 6 a.m. officers shot a man outside a convenience store at the corner of Desert Inn and McLeod roads after he attacked them with a pointed wooden walking stick, police said.

The officers tried to stop the man with a taser stun gun and a bean bag shotgun before shooting him, police said.
