Police officer arrested in lewdness case no longer employed by NLV

A North Las Vegas police officer arrested in connection with allegations that he exposed himself and tried to coerce women into sexual activities to get out of traffic tickets is no longer with the department.

A news release issued Wednesday said James Vernon Clayton, 40, is no longer employed by the city of North Las Vegas. The police department did not give details about the separation, saying it was a personnel matter. The announcement was released after an administrative investigation into Clayton's duty misconduct was concluded.

Clayton was arrested in December on five counts of misconduct of a police officer, two counts of oppression under color of office and one count of open and gross lewdness in connection with the incidents, which authorities alleged took place between March and July.
