Police seek killers of 25-year-old Las Vegan

A 25-year-old man who was killed this weekend in a drive-by shooting near Decatur Boulevard and Twain Avenue was identified as Jose Gilberto Guerrero of Las Vegas, authorities said Monday.

Guerrero died of multiple gunshot wounds, the Clark County coroner's office said.

The Metropolitan Police Department said that at 10:10 p.m. Saturday, officers arrived at the 3600 block of Kolendo Court in response to a report of multiple shots fired. Upon arrival, they found three men had been shot.

Guerrero and a second victim were taken to University Medical Center. Guerrero was pronounced dead at the hospital.

A third man was taken to Spring Valley Hospital where he was treated and released.

Police said the victims were gathered close to a car on Kolendo Court when a black Honda Accord or Civic made a U-turn and headed toward them.

A passenger in the vehicle began yelling gang slang, at which point several passengers fired multiple shots.

Lt. Lew Roberts said police have no suspects. Roberts said the assailants were heard yelling "Barrios 25th Street" before they started shooting. If such a gang exists, Roberts said it may have out-of-state ties.

"I've never heard of them," Roberts said. "The gang unit has never heard of them."

Roberts said that none of the victims are believed to be gang members.

"There's no indication they were doing anything other than minding their own business, drinking beer," Roberts said.

Police said the Honda has tinted windows and light-colored primer spots on the front fender.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting is asked to call the homicide section at 828-3521 or Crime Stoppers at 385-5555.
