Police: Woman no beauty in behavior

When embattled beauty queen Katie Rees was pulled over for a traffic violation early Wednesday morning, police say her behavior was anything but congenial.

Las Vegas police arrested Rees, 23, in southwest Las Vegas shortly before 3 a.m. on misdemeanor charges including resisting arrest, officer Bill Cassell said.

"She was acting physically toward the officer," Cassell said. "That's all I'll say."

Rees was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on additional recommended charges of speeding, driving on a suspended license, driving with suspended license plates, having no proof of insurance and driving a car with expired license plates.

Rees was stripped of her title of Miss Nevada USA 2007 after provocative photos of her surfaced on the Internet. In the photos, Rees exposed her breasts and bottom and simulated oral sex with men and women.

Rees could not be reached for comment.

Las Vegas police spokesman Jose Montoya said Rees was pulled over near the intersection of Decatur Boulevard and Harmon Avenue. Montoya said she was booked at the detention center about 4 a.m.

She was released 12 hours later. As she left the jail, she covered her head with a red, hooded sweatshirt and took drags off a cigarette.

Rees is slated to appear March 8 in Justice Court.

In her December 2006 dethroning, a lawyer representing Rees said the photos represented a youthful "lapse in judgment." She was only 17 at the time, he said, adding that the photos, which were taken in Tampa, Fla., were leaked by one of her friends.

Rees' dismissal as Miss Nevada USA came days after business mogul Donald Trump, who is part owner of the Miss Universe Organization, allowed Miss Teen USA Tara Conner to keep her title after she admitted to underage drinking at bars. Conner agreed to undergo rehabilitation. Trump did not support Rees' appeal to keep her crown as Miss Nevada.

Mario Torres, Rees' attorney, denied his client was aggressive and said she chipped or lost a tooth when she was forcefully pushed against her vehicle. "Based on the information I've received, the officer was very aggressive with her," Torres said. "They used aggression against her."
