Possible human remains found in Northern Nevada septic tank

VIRGINIA CITY — Authorities in Northern Nevada are trying to determine whether human remains were pumped out of a septic tank north of Virginia City.

Storey County Sheriff Gerald Antinoro said his office hasn’t confirmed whether the discovery is human remains, but has reason to believe it might be. He told the Reno Gazette-Journal it’s unlikely people would throw animals down a septic tank, and said other items were found with the suspicious material.

Antinoro said the current residents at the house have lived there for decades, but aren’t suspected of any wrongdoing. He didn’t release their names and address.

He told the newspaper the remains were being sent to the Washoe County medical examiner’s office Tuesday for review.
