CASHMAN to host NV ENERGY EXPO
The Senior Energy Assistance Expo is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 13 at the Cashman Center, 850 Las Vegas Blvd. North. The event is free to the public.
At this event, seniors can receive energy assistance through Project REACH, an energy assistance program administered by the United Way of Southern Nevada, make payment arrangements and receive help through a variety of social service programs.
Project REACH helps adults 62 or older, who are medically fragile, vulnerable or U.S. Reserve and National Guard members who meet program guidelines.
Customers must bring a valid Nevada driver's license or state ID, past due NV Energy bills and proof of income. Anyone who has received energy assistance in the previous 12 months is not eligible to receive assistance but can take advantage of other resources offered at the event.
Nonprofit, government agencies and other utility representatives will be available to provide energy assistance, discuss weatherization options, provide energy education, conservation and rebate information and social services such as food bank, housing, medical and rental assistance.

Senior Idol Talent Showcase auditions planned for Aug. 24-25
Groups and individuals are invited to audition for the Las Vegas Senior Idol Talent Showcase by appointment Aug. 24-25 at the Las Vegas Senior Center, 451 E. Bonanza Road.
Applications for acts must be submitted by Aug. 12. Contact the center at 229-6454 for an application packet. The final performance date is to be announced.
Back to school drive and luncheon
to benefit elementary schools
Seniors are invited to a back-to-school drive and luncheon at
11:30 a.m. Aug. 18, at the East Las Vegas Community/Senior Center, 250 N. Eastern Ave. Registration is required. The $5. admission fee includes a Hawaiian luncheon and entertainment. Donations of new school supplies also are requested to help the Park Ambassadors and Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Downtown Area Command help local elementary school students prepare for the new school year.

Law Project offers assistance
The Senior Citizens Law Project provides free legal assistance in civil matters to Clark County residents 60 and older. The group can help with a variety of law concerns including estate planning, public entitlements such as Social Security, housing issues and document preparation.

Wellness series planned

pool offers open swim hours
The Cora Coleman Indoor Pool has open swim hours from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 to 3 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The pool is an adult-only pool at 2100 Bonnie Lane.
There is a $1 fee for ages 50 and up. Passes are available. Water aerobics and swim classes are available for an additional fee.

The Cora Coleman Senior Center has a complete fitness center with cardiovascular equipment and resistance machines. All new members must participate in a 15-minute orientation before working out.
