Reid, Sandoval agree to debate

Gubernatorial candidates Rory Reid and Brian Sandoval have agreed to a one-hour debate to be broadcast on statewide television and streamed live on the Internet.

It is slated for 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 29.

The debate will be broadcast live on 8 News Now and Vegas PBS in Las Vegas and on KTVN, Channel 2 and KNPB, Channel 5 in Reno. It also will be streamed live on 8NewsNow.com and the Review-Journal website at lvrj.com.

The debate's focus will be education. Democrat Reid and Republican Sandoval each have presented education plans and acknowledge Nevada schools fall well short of expectations, but don't agree on the best ways to improve student performance.

Organizers include 8 News Now, the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Vegas PBS and the Andre Agassi Foundation for Education.

The debate will be on statewide television between the news and 60 Minutes.
