Reno photographer files complaint against police
RENO- A veteran Reno newspaper photographer has filed a formal complaint with the Washoe County Sheriff's Office after being cited for obstructing and resisting while covering a brush fire.
Reno Gazette-Journal photo chief Tim Dunn, in his citizen complaint submitted Thursday, cited the use of excessive force by deputies who dealt with him at the scene of the blaze Monday.
Dunn said that after he was thrown to the ground, a deputy's boot came down on his back, his face was pushed in gravel and he was handcuffed for about 45 minutes when he tried to comply with commands to leave the area.
He suffered a large scrape on his cheek.
Sheriff Mike Haley said an impartial investigation by Sparks police will help him "come to a conclusion about what occurred."
