Reward offered in pet cat’s death

The Nevada Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals on Thursday offered a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the apparent poisoning of a cat owned by “Top Chef” contestant Carla Pellegrino.

The 16-month-old cat named Miccio (Italian for kitty) was found dead under a rose plant Tuesday in the backyard at Pellegrino’s home in Henderson.

Doug Duke, executive director of the NSPCA, called the incident “horrific” and said he hoped the reward would “encourage someone to come forward and do the right thing.” Duke said poison not only endangers other animals but children as well.

Pellegrino was vacationing in Miami when her daughter, Marcelle Braga, informed her of the pet’s death.

In a Facebook posting, Pellegrino blamed a “sick neighbor” for the animal’s death and said she had reported the incident to authorities.

 THE PUNCH LINE

“Scientists say they are getting closer to being able to do “Jurassic Park”-style cloning of extinct species. Imagine that? Things that were thought to be extinct could be brought back from the dead. So there’s hope for NBC. It could turn around.” — Jay Leno
