Santa Clara leads at the half
March 5, 2010 - 10:29 pm
Robert Smith scored 11 points in the first half to help lead Santa Clara to a 33-30 halftime advantage over San Diego in the final game of the West Coast Conference tournament’s first round.
Smith hit both of his 3-point attempts in the half.
Niyi Harrison added six points for the Broncos.
Chris Lewis has 10 points for the Torreros, but Brandon Johnson was held to just five after picking up two quick fouls.
The winner of the game will play Portland tomorrow in the second round.
Rooting Interest
UNLV fans should probably be rooting for Santa Clara in this one.
The Rebels defeated the Broncos early in the season, so a victory by the Broncos could boost UNLV’s RPI number ever so slightly.
The Rebels are probably safely in the field of 65 at this point, but every little bit helps.
