Scores register to stay at homeless camp in downtown Reno

RENO -- Homeless residents at a tent camp in Reno will be allowed to stay for up to 30 days, city officials said.

About 100 people have registered since last week to stay at the site, which has 83 spaces.

Officials are trying to help the homeless find jobs or receive other services.

Police also are trying to contact friends or family members willing to help residents.

City reinvestment manager Jodi Royal-Goodwin said registered residents receive a photo identification card.

Participants were asked to sign an agreement to follow rules and make efforts to pursue housing and services within 14 days.
