Secretary of state wants fines owed by ex-North Las Vegas assemblyman
The secretary of state's office is pursuing fines levied in 2003 against former state Assemblyman Wendell Williams for campaign reporting violations.
The North Las Vegas Democrat was fined $15,000 in June 2003 for failing to file campaign contribution and expense reports for the 2000 election cycle. He agreed to make monthly payments.
But the Nevada Appeal reported that the secretary of state's office has not received a payment in nearly two years. Williams still owes about $9,500.
Elections Deputy Scott Gilles said his office sent Williams a letter by certified mail on Nov. 1 but has not received a return certificate that it was received.
Williams served 18 years in the Assembly and was chairman of the Education Committee in 2003, his last session.
