Seek and Destroy

Ken Kotota of Las Vegas inspects the bottom of a houseboat covered with quagga mussels at Callville Bay Marina in Lake Mead National Recreation Area on Wednesday. Kotota attended the Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission training session, which lasted for two days.

The quagga mussel is an invasive species that can clog water intake structures, among other dangers. During the training session, representatives from several Western states received instructions on how to decontaminate watercraft of the quagga mussel.
