CARSON CITY -- The Nevada State Board of Education no longer will allow students to take a controversial Carson City human sexuality class for high school credit.
The board voted unanimously Friday to remove the Western Nevada College class's dual-credit status, which had allowed students to earn both high school and college credit for it.
Trustee David Cook told the Nevada Appeal that dual-credit status would make the state board somewhat of an endorser of the course.
Western Nevada College student Karen Royce filed a complaint with the college in October and alleged professor Tom Kubistant crossed a line with some assignments, including asking students to increase their masturbation routine.
The college has ruled Royce's complaint is unfounded. The matter is still under investigation by the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights.
