Sheriff deputy shoots inmate at Reno hospital

RENO — A sheriff’s deputy shot an inmate at a Reno hospital Sunday night and both were treated for their injuries.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s deputy was guarding an inmate undergoing treatment at Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center, police spokesman Bob Harmon said.

Officials have not said why the deputy shot the inmate, nor have they released their names.

Harmon said the inmate was taken to Renown Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Harmon says the Reno Police Department is investigating the incident.
