Six names to be added to Henderson veterans memorial
Military veterans will be honored and names will be added to Henderson's Veterans Memorial Wall today in recognition of the upcoming holiday.
A ceremony begins at 10 a.m. at the Henderson Amphitheater, 200 Water St., adjacent to the wall that bears more than 1,500 names of soldiers etched in granite.
The memorial wall was dedicated to the city in November of 1994.
The wall has names of hundreds of both living and deceased Vietnam veterans, as well as a panel dedicated to all war veterans who lived in Henderson prior to 1980.
In 2006, an additional section was added to the wall to honor Henderson residents who died in combat or as a result of terrorism and received a Purple Heart.
City of Henderson spokesman Bud Cranor said six names will be added to the wall today.
The names are of deceased veterans who once lived in Henderson who served in the Korean War, World War II and Vietnam, he said.
The ceremony will honor 11 military personnel who suffered permanent injuries in combat.
The keynote address will be given by Henderson City Councilwoman Debra March.
