Smoothing out the kinks in Parents Link

Parents Link is a new electronic communications system for the Clark County School District.

According to comments at Wednesday’s School Board meeting, people either love the efficiency in getting information or else they are frustrated by a slow and erratic system. Deanna Wright, a School Board member, complained that she was not getting accurate online information about her son’s grades.

Phil Brody, the chief technology officer, said problems are getting resolved. Technicians also indicated operator error might be to blame as teachers are “exporting files” to the wrong locations online.

Brody noted that Parents Link is responsible for making 8 million telephone calls to parents as of February. Because Parents Link is being used to advertise meetings, Brody said the school system has saved $40,000 in not having to buy newspaper advertisements.
