Special Las Vegas Mass to be given Sunday for migrants, refugees

Las Vegas Valley residents of all faiths are invited to celebrate a special Mass for the 100th annual World Day of Migrants and Refugees at the Guardian Angel Cathedral at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

Prayers will call for the elimination of prejudices against immigrants and refugees, a worldwide theme chosen by Pope Francis.

“As Christians we are called forth to make ‘disciples of all nations’ and so this mass will honor that call in the spirit of international cooperation, solidarity and compassion,” said the Very Rev. Bob Stoeckig, vicar general of the Diocese of Las Vegas.

Stoeckig said immigration is an important issue for the Las Vegas community due to large numbers of people “seeking fundamental human freedoms.”

Guardian Angel Cathedral is at 302 Cathedral Way, near Las Vegas Boulevard and Convention Center Drive.
