Spiritual healer sentenced in killing of brother-in-law
EUGENE, Ore. - A spiritual healer from Oregon who was convicted of killing his brother-in-law has been sentenced to a Nevada prison.
A prosecutor told The Register-Guard newspaper that 27-year-old Timothy Morgan of Eugene could serve more than 30 years behind bars, but it's likely he will be released on parole in 13 years.
In May, a Nevada jury convicted Morgan of second-degree murder in the death of brother-in-law Eric Preimesberger.
Prosecutor Derek Dreiling told the newspaper that Morgan said at Friday's sentencing that he loved Preimesberger and had been wrongly convicted.
The authorities said Morgan bludgeoned the victim with a baseball bat in Reno.
Morgan regularly performed "sound healings" in Eugene, and was viewed by some as a spiritual guru. The therapy uses vibrational sounds to treat stress and physical ailments.
