Teachers protest budget cut plan at Cashman Field

Abby Pawlak sits on the shoulders of her mother, Barb Brents, during a rally against proposed education cuts Saturday afternoon at Cashman Field in Las Vegas.

Hundreds of teachers and their supporters gathered to protest cuts to state funding for education. Teachers wore red shirts bearing slogans such as "Cuts in education never heal" and held signs reading "Impeach Sandoval the Cannibal."

Clark County Education Association President Ruben Murillo told the crowd that legislators would rather gut public funding and wipe out regulatory agencies than raise taxes.

"We're here because teachers' working conditions are students' learning conditions," he said.
