Teen dies of injuries from fall off covered pickup bed

A 17-year-old boy who was injured last week when he fell off a pickup died Sunday, North Las Vegas police said.

The teen, whose name was not released, had been riding on the top of the covered bed of the truck when the driver made a turn, causing the teen to fall into the street at Tonopah Avenue and Princeton Street about 10 p.m. Thursday, said Officer Sean Walker, police department spokesman.

Walker said he wasn't sure whether the teen, who was a North Las Vegas resident, had been sitting, lying or standing on the covered truck bed just prior to falling off. The driver of the truck was a friend of the teen's, Walker said.

The teen was the 20th traffic fatality in North Las Vegas this year, Walker said.
