Teen sentenced for bringing gun used in fatal shooting

KINGMAN, Ariz. --A teenager from Dolan Springs, Ariz., has been sentenced in Kingman for bringing a gun to a youth gathering that another teenager used to kill himself while playing Russian roulette last September.

Edward Angelo, 15, was prohibited from possessing a weapon because of previous criminal convictions.

Witnesses told Mohave County Sheriff's investigators that Angelo brought a .22-caliber handgun to the north Kingman property where 16-year-old Kevin Hudgens killed himself. They were consistent in stating that Hudgens ignored repeated warnings not to play with the weapon.

Angelo entered a plea agreement admitting several violations of probation for previous criminal offenses. He also admitted committing new crimes including attempted escape, failure to appear and misconduct involving weapons for possessing the handgun he delivered to Hudgens.

A throng of family members and friends attended Angelo's sentencing hearing Wednesday. One told Angelo to "keep God in your heart" as the teen was led from the courtroom with tears streaming down his face.

As required under terms of the agreement, Mohave County Superior Court Judge Rick Williams ordered that Angelo must serve at least 180 days in the Juvenile Department of Corrections. At the same time, Angelo could be incarcerated until his 18th birthday.

Judge Williams expressed hope that Angelo will take advantage of his time behind bars to gain education and skills he can put to use when he gains his freedom rather than "returning to a life of crime and chaos."
