For more than 13 years, he has been widely regarded as the man who got away with murder. But on Friday, O.J. Simpson was punished for other crimes: last year's kidnapping and armed robbery of two sports memorabilia dealers at Palace Station.
After hearing a statement of remorse from Simpson, whose voice quavered as he spoke, District Judge Jackie Glass imposed a sentence that will keep the 61-year-old former football star behind bars for nine to 33 years.
"I'm not here to try and cause any retribution or any payback for anything else," the judge told the packed courtroom before announcing her decision. "I want that to be perfectly clear to everyone."
Glass sentenced co-defendant Clarence "C.J." Stewart, 54, to a prison term that will have him serve between 71/2 and 27 years.

A third physician who practiced out of the Endoscopy Center of Southern Nevada was hit with a medical malpractice complaint by state regulators.

Complaints already have been filed against the clinic's majority owner, Dr. Dipak Desai, and Dr. Eladio Carrera.

The charges stem from his administration of a state college savings program. The funds have been accounted for, and Krolicki is not accused of embezzling money.

FRIDAY
SPECIAL SESSION IS ON
As promised, Gov. Jim Gibbons called a special session of the Legislature for Monday and Tuesday to handle a $342 million state budget shortfall.
Gibbons said he's trying to keep Nevadans in their homes and not increase taxes, and that proposed changes wouldn't cause additional state layoffs.
Because of an agreement with lawmakers, he will offer no specifics on cuts until he meets with the Legislature.
