Towbin dealership takes down big flag

The huge flag in front of Towbin Automotive Group flies no more.

The West Sahara Avenue automotive dealership removed its controversial 109-foot flagpole last week after the Nevada Supreme Court ruled in favor of the city of Las Vegas.

Las Vegas code states flagpoles must be 40 feet or lower unless granted permission by the City Council.

Although the council initially had granted permission for the flagpole, it reversed that decision after complaints that wind noise from the flag bothered residents.

The case has been in the court system since 2007.

Dan Towbin, owner of several dealerships in Las Vegas, died in June before the case went to the state's high court.

A statement from Towbin's wife, Carolynn Towbin, chairwoman of the Towbin Automotive Group, said, "We have not made a final decision on the flag. We took it down before Aug. 4, as directed.

"Our family is still mourning the loss of my husband, Dan. This was his passion and fight. With time, we know we will make the best decision that honors Dan and his patriotism."
