Two construction workers injured in trench

Two construction workers were struck by a pipe they were helping move into a narrow trench near Sunset Avenue and Boulder Highway late Tuesday.

Emergency crews were called to the site where the two men with potentially life-threatening injuries were inside the open 10-foot deep trench.

Henderson Fire Department officials said one man was taken to the hospital by a Mercy Air helicopter around midnight.

Henderson Battalion Chief Matthew Morris said the men, whose identities were not released, were installing a large PVC pipe when they were injured.

He did not disclose details about their injuries but said the investigation is ongoing.

The trench was stable while crews retrieved the men, Morris said.

More than 30 rescue workers, including personnel from the Clark County Fire Department, assisted with the incident.
