Two Mesquite incumbents lose council seats

It wasn't a clean sweep, but it came pretty close in Mesquite on Tuesday, as two of three incumbents were bounced from the City Council.

Robert "Bubba" Smith and Bill Wells lost their seats to challengers W.G. "Geno" Withelder and Donna Fairchild.

Karl Gustaveson was the only sitting councilman to survive the race. The difference between Withelder's first-place total and Smith's fourth-place total was 221 votes.

Mesquite is home to about 20,000 people. The community is governed by five City Council members and a mayor who casts votes only to break ties.
