Uncle of Floyd Mayweather Jr. arrested after female boxer attacked

Roger Mayweather, the 48-year-old uncle of champion boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr., faces coercion and battery charges after he was arrested Sunday. He is accused of attacking a female boxer he once trained.

According to a Las Vegas police report, officers went to a residence on the 700 block of Rock Springs Drive, near Rainbow Boulevard and Washington Avenue, in response to a 911 call from a woman who was screaming.

Upon arrival, an officer saw Mayweather with his arms wrapped around a woman, Melissa St. Vil, who was struggling to free herself.

She told police she heard a knock on the door and did not open it when she saw Mayweather. The report said St. Vil once trained with Mayweather. She was living in an apartment with a roommate who rented the apartment from Mayweather.

Mayweather told police the door was open. Police said in the report that he had a key to the apartment because he was the landlord.

Police said Mayweather was upset that his tenant was allowing St. Vil to live at the apartment. The report said that Mayweather prevented St. Vil from retreating to her bedroom. She tried to push past him. The report said Mayweather then grabbed her, forced her into the living room and punched her several times in the ribs.

The report also said Mayweather “wrapped his hands around her throat, causing her to nearly pass out.”

St. Vil fought back. “She grabbed a small lamp and struck Roger in the top of the head and retreated,” the report said. An officer saw her coughing and spitting up blood.

Mayweather is a former professional boxer. He was not listed as an inmate Monday at the Clark County Detention Center.
