University of Nevada School of Medicine receives $1.6 million gift

RENO -- A familiar benefactor of the University of Nevada, Reno has pledged another $1.6 million to the university's School of Medicine.

The Nell J. Redfield Foundation on Wednesday pledged $1.5 million to support and expand research efforts at the medical school.

Another $100,000 will go to the Student Outreach Clinic and the Sports Medicine Fellowship.

Over the past three decades, the Redfield Foundation has committed more than $35 million to UNR, with donations going to help fund various schools, buildings and programs.

In 2005, the Redfield Foundation donated a $9.2 million land parcel in south Reno to create a Redfield Campus for UNR and Truckee Meadows Community College programs.

The next year, it pledged $5 million for construction of the inaugural building.
