UNLV Educational Outreach offers productive, fun summer options
Whether parents are looking for activities for their kids or adults are looking to learn something new, the UNLV Division of Educational Outreach has a number of programs and courses to make summer 2011 fun and productive.
The Youth Program in the Office of Community2Campus is offering Summer Youth Camp, a nine-week personally enriching and academically based camp. Students in first through fifth grade will learn, explore and investigate "Myself, My Community and My World." Camp will be held 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday from June 20 through Aug. 19 at the UNLV Paradise Campus, located at Tropicana and Swenson avenues.
The cost is $490 for Session I, $525 for Session II and $525 for Session III. The fee does not include lunch, but snacks and water will be provided. Brown bag lunches are required. Weekly extended care is also available. Continuing Education has enhanced its personal enrichment opportunities with fun and relevant classes and seminars ranging from arts and crafts to yoga. In addition, exploring trips around Nevada and Utah will allow participants to visit unique places and learn about the history, people, plants and animals. Continuing Education's courses, programs and certificates provide quality instruction to enhance basic skills or advance careers. The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UNLV offers a vibrant 10-week summer session for semiretired and retired individuals who want to experience the joy of learning without tests or grades. Coordinators will present more than 15 interesting study groups on a wide range of subjects. Participants can take as many classes as they like for one low cost of $35.
