Vehicle strikes, kills man in wheelchair in Las Vegas

A vehicle struck a man in a wheelchair near the Stratosphere on Saturday, and the man died later at a hospital.

Lt. Ken Romane, a swing shift watch commander for Metro, said the accident was reported at 2:37 p.m., but that officers who commonly investigate fatalities never responded because the man was initially treated for a broken leg.

However, he was later pronounced dead at University Medical Center’s trauma unit, Romane said.

The accident occurred at the intersection of East St. Louis and Santa Paula drives in downtown Las Vegas.

Romane said the driver of the white Trailblazer that struck the man was not cited.

Further details of the accident were not immediately available.
