Wallace, Seinfeld keep Slam clean

Touching the bases at Andre Agassi's 12th Grand Slam for Children on Saturday at the MGM Grand Garden:

Longtime attendees of the event noticed a striking difference. The language was significantly toned down, and the political zingers of the past were missing. That's a far cry from the F-bomb fests by Robin Williams and the political rants of Dennis Miller that set off Elton John. Thanks to George Wallace and Jerry Seinfeld for keeping it clean.

During Agassi's red carpet appearance, I asked him about progress on his autobiography, which landed him a record $5.3 million advance. There have been reports he has settled on Pulitzer Prize-winning writer J.R. Moehringer as his collaborator.

"At this particular stage, I'm just gonna say I have a lot of great people around me right now, sort of helping me make a lot of decisions," Agassi said. "First I have to plumb my own sort of depths. I have to get it all out then I have to organize it."

Tony Bennett, in a red carpet interview, shared his earlier memories of Las Vegas.

"My first trip was at the El Rancho (in the 1950s), and they didn't allow record artists. They were so high-class they only booked (acts like) Marlene Dietrich and Noel Coward. No country acts were allowed and no record acts were allowed, but Milton Berle put me on his show, which was at the El Rancho."

"Dancing With the Stars" professional dancer Julianne Hough, on the red carpet with race car driver Helio Castroneves, talked about her Las Vegas background. Hough, 19, lived here for a year in her midteen years and attended Las Vegas Academy, where she majored in theater.

"I was very involved in the school, and I was always in the plays. I was in 'Beauty and the Beast' there. I was one of the Silly Girls." During their Las Vegas visit, Castroneves and Hough, the "Dancing" favorites, had lunch Friday at Wayne Newton's estate and got a tour.

WEDDING DETAILS

Guests at the Pamela Anderson-Rick Salomon wedding Saturday included her two sons from her marriage to Tommy Lee, actors Tobey Maguire, Lukas Haas and Ethan Suplee, and illusionist Hans Klok.

With Anderson in a white Valentino minidress and Salomon in a black suit and black knit skullcap, the newlyweds were declared husband and wife about 9:20 p.m. by Nathan Ward, who officiated the ceremony.

The couple's first song was Sade's "By Your Side," from the turntable of DJ Neva of Jet Nightclub at The Mirage.

The wedding reception was catered by Stack Restaurant, where Anderson and Salomon had dined Friday night.

After dashing back to Planet Hollywood Resort for the 10 p.m. show, Anderson -- after the first time Klok made her appear on stage -- informed the audience that she got married.

At the end of the show, Planet Hollywood servers began pouring champagne throughout the casino.

Anderson and Salomon, accompanied by members of the wedding party, arrived at the Heart Bar about midnight, where she raised a toast in front of a large crowd that ringed the bar area, which is in the center of the casino.

A four-tiered white cake with pink flowers was passed out to everyone in sight.

SIGHTINGS

ABC film crews, filming a rehearsal at "Le Reve" (Wynn) on Friday with "Dancing With the Stars" team Melanie Brown and Maksim Chmerkovskiy. The segment will be part of Monday's show (KTNV-TV, Channel 13, 8 p.m.). Chmerkovskiy is choreographing a ballroom number for "Le Reve." ... Paris and Nicky Hilton, at Pure Management Group's table with Robert Frey and "Beacher's Madhouse" frontman Jeff Beacher at the Agassi event. Later, the Hiltons and Beacher joined friends at Benihana in the Las Vegas Hilton. ... At Pure nightclub Saturday (Caesars Palace): the Hiltons, "Olly Girls" Molly Shea and Holly Huddleston, David Katzenberg, and rap group The Shop Boyz.
