West Las Vegas panel forming

The city of Las Vegas is accepting applications for the West Las Vegas Advisory Board, which is being set up to help organize the neighborhood and involve residents in improving the area.

The West Las Vegas neighborhood was once the center of African-American life in Las Vegas but has struggled to attract and keep residents and businesses for years. It is bounded by Carey Avenue, Interstate 15, Bonanza Road and Rancho Drive.

Residents and business owners in the area can apply by sending a letter of interest including the applicant's contact information and his or her reasons for wanting to be on the board.

Send to trenter@lasvegasnevada.gov or mail to Tanya Jackson-Renter, 400 Stewart Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89101.

The deadline is Aug. 7.
