Wild horses near Lovelock to be gathered

LOVELOCK -- The U.S. Bureau of Land Management will conduct an emergency roundup of more than 330 wild horses from a herd in Northern Nevada, citing limited water and forage for the animals.

Beginning Wednesday, the BLM will remove horses from the North Stillwater Herd Management Area, located along the Pershing-Churchill county line about 30 miles east of Lovelock.

Plans call for the herd to be reduced to about 138 horses, the appropriate level the area can sustain, BLM officials said.
